As Jim Geraghty reports over on the home page, Ben Carson, who announced his presidential candidacy last week, does not yet have a policy team on staff. Some conservatives aren’t taking his candidacy seriously, but many are: The latest PPP poll shows him tied for third place nationally alongside former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, behind both Wisconsin governor Scott Walker and former Florida governor Jeb Bush.
It’s revealing that Carson, who has no political experience, has no policy team. As National Review has reported previously, Carson is also scheduled to deliver paid speeches throughout the presidential campaign. At the very least, it’s clear what his priorities are — and once voters tune in more closely, I’m not sure they’ll be pleased.
