Ben Carson: I Was Extremely Impressed with Kanye West’s Business Acumen

Raise your hand if you saw this coming: Appearing on ABC News’ This Week, Dr. Ben Carson said he recently had a chance to speak with his fan… Kanye West.

“I did have an opportunity to talk with him. I was extremely impressed with his business acumen. He knows a lot about business,” Carson continued. “I talked to him about the possibility of maybe himself and some of the other people in pop culture doing some music that might be uplifting that might give young women a sense of their value and young men a sense of responsibility. I think it could be a tremendous thing in our society.”

West in an interview with Vanity Fair recently:

When I run for president, I’d prefer not to run against someone. I would be like “I want to work with you.” As soon as I heard [Ben] Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him. I was like this is the most brilliant guy. And I think all the people running right now have something that each of the others needs. But the idea of this separation and this gladiator battle takes away from the main focus that the world needs help and the world needs all the people in a position of power or influence to come together.

Sounds like a presidential stump speech to me. Are you still thinking of running in 2020?

Oh, definitely.

Asked about a new poll showing him close to front-runner Donald Trump, Carson said, “It says a lot for the American people, because it means that they’re not necessarily listening to the pundits, that they’re starting to think for themselves.”

Expect Carson to get grief in the coming days about this answer, which appeared to leave the door open to citing religion as probable cause for searches:

RADDATZ: But I want to turn to the migrant crisis. You told me a few weeks ago that bringing in people from the Middle East right now carries extra danger and we cannot put our people at risk because we are trying to be politically correct. Let’s imagine some of those refugees get into the United States. For authorities to track emails, cell phone calls, they usually need to have probable cause. Do you think in some instances, religion should be enough for probable cause?

CARSON: I personally don’t feel that way, but I would certainly be willing to listen to somebody who had evidence to the contrary. I think that’s one of the problems, we get to our little corners and we don’t want to listen to anybody anymore.
