Beto in El Paso

What was notable about his performance—besides that he doesn’t seem to be agonizing very much about whether to run and that he’s trying very hard to be Obama 2.0–is that it was basically an open-borders jeremiad. He attacked walls as such and talked about welcoming any asylum-seekers who show up. This posture is clearly where the passion of the Democratic base is, but, as with so many other issues, it is going to be a much tougher sell in the general.
