Those Darn ‘Ignorant, Selfish Climate Deniers’!

Say, how many carbon emission credits you do need to buy to offset the electricity and heating and cooling energy use in a 12-room, 3,100-square-foot triplex in Manhattan; a 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom, 5,918-square-foot home in Dover Plains, New York; a 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom, 3,785 square-foot home in Beverly Hills, and a house in Hawaii? Or the use of a private jet?

(A private jet crossing the Atlantic emits about 21 tons of carbon dioxide; the average American produces about 19 tons of carbon dioxide in a year.)

Give Bette Midler some credit; she does walk the walk more than the usual celebrity; she says she has no plastic in her homeplants trees on her properties and promotes urban gardens! But when it comes to actual output of carbon, her wealthy lifestyle puts a lot more carbon into the atmosphere than the lifestyle of almost any individual ”ignorant, selfish climate denier.”
