The chief of police for the state of Sonora was executed in Nogales, Son., Sunday, Mexican newspaper El Imparcial reported today.
Juan Manuel Pavón Félix was gunned down at the Marqués de Cima hotel, officials told the newspaper.
The investigation is ongoing.
Nogales has been the site of increasing violence in recent month between battling drug cartels. Last week a rolling gunbattle that went past supermarkets and malls and down side streets before ending in an industrial park, left 10 gunmen dead.
