As far as I’m concerned, the most important and exhilarating news of the week is this.
A couple of readers have e-mailed wondering why I haven’t commented yet. I’ve been traveling and have had no time to read The Corner, let alone post anything.
I don’t care what you think about hockey: In all of sports, there’s no better championship moment than when the captain of the winning team hoists the Stanley Cup above his head and skates around the rink. Just watch this. Congrats to Nicklas Lidstrom and the Detroit Red Wings for an awesome season.
Congrats also to the Pittsburgh Penguins. After the first two games, it looked like they might get swept, maybe without even scoring. But they didn’t give up and made the series interesting. They’re young and they’ll be back. Sometimes a team has to lose before it can win. That includes the Wings. Before Detroit’s current Cup run–four trophies in 11 years–they were swept out of the finals themselves, in 1996. I’m still frightened of Martin Brodeur.
More important, today I’m thrilled for Chris Osgood, Darren McCarty, Henrik Zetterberg, and all the rest.
