Though I could not be more certain that Hollywood would screw it up terribly, in part because they couldn’t help but turn it into an anti-Fox screed and in part because Network worked thanks to the real-world gravitas of the news industry. Some folks in the press are still that self-important, but very few viewers see anyone in the news business as voice-of-God types anymore. Walter Cronkite — overrated as he was — is never coming back.
