The Bevin campaign is punching back after a McConnell campaign spokesperson called a conservative group backing Matt Bevin “fringe.”
Last month, the Madison Project, a conservative organization that works to help conservative districts and states get the most conservative viable candidate elected and previously endorsed Senator Ted Cruz early on in his primary, released a radio ad attacking the conservative credentials of Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell. In response, McConnell campaign spokeswoman Allison Moore told the Washington Post, “Apparently Matt ‘Bailout’ Bevin has a small cadre of fringe friends in Washington who have concluded that conservative governance isn’t half as important as making money off his quixotic Senate campaign, even though polling shows Mitch winning by a staggering 68-21 margin.”
Today the Bevin campaign released a web video responding to the attacks, urging Kentucky voters to “join the fringe.” Different people say, “Mitch McConnell called a leading conservative group ‘fringe.’ This is a group that supported Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Ted Cruz.” Watch:

UPDATE: McConnell spokeswoman Allison Moore responds, “Matt Bevin can’t figure out who he is, why he’s running, where he went to school, or what the Constitution says. Kentucky conservatives aren’t joining him in anything.”
