The atrocities being committed by Hamas jihadists in Israel are unspeakable. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is promising a response of unprecedented ferocity. Hamas’s chief supporter, of course, is Iran, which in the days leading up to today’s launching of war — on the 50th anniversary of the sneak attack against Israel by Muslim regimes that began the Yom Kippur war — has reaffirmed its commitment to destroy Israel, while stepping up its campaign of cyber-attacks patently meant to promote an atmosphere of intimidation and instability.
Infuriatingly, it was under these circumstances that the Biden administration chose to extend Tehran a lifeline of $6 billion in funding. As our editorial related about this material support to the world’s leading state sponsor of anti-American terrorism:
Tehran will be free to do what it wants with the money, even though the administration says that it will be rigorously overseen by Qatar and used only for food, medicine, and other necessities. In fact, Iran’s president said just that in an interview Wednesday. “This money belongs to the Iranian people, the Iranian government, so the Islamic Republic of Iran will decide what to do with this money,” he told Lester Holt.
As our editors went on to observe, even were we to indulge the fantasy that the revolutionary Shiite sharia state would conscientiously abide by American-dictated restrictions (no doubt between chants of “Death to America!”), money is fungible: $6 billion in new funds supposedly earmarked for food and medicine equals $6 billion in existing funds that can be shifted to Iran’s main export: jihad – like what’s happening in Israel right now. But just as notable is the Biden administration’s precious assurance about how Qatar can be trusted to make sure all is well.
Qatar just happens to be the longstanding home of the political leadership of . . . wait for it . . . Hamas. In fact, here’s some video of top Hamas honcho Ismael Haniyeh and other leaders of the terrorist organization celebrating this morning’s sneak attack – Allahu Akhbar! – in their comfy quarters in Doha. With Biden heavily (laughably) relying on Qatar to police Iran, bear in mind that Iran-backed Hamas has been formally designated as a terrorist organization under U.S. law for decades, and that Qatar has been harboring Hamas’s leadership for years.
As our latest editorial on the subject explains, the background for today’s events is a scandal the Biden administration is desperately trying to suppress: evidence that its Iran envoy, inveterate appeasement afficionado Robert Malley, in his efforts to forge Biden’s obsession of a revived Obama-Iran Nuclear deal, may have been infiltrated by an Iranian influence operations.
Given the events of today, with Iran’s proxies carrying out what appears to be an all-out attack on Israel, our close ally and the Middle East’s only real democracy, I thought it would be worth spotlighting the U.S. State Department’s most recent published findings about international terrorism – which cover 2021. Regarding Iran, the report states:
Designated as a State Sponsor of Terrorism in 1984, Iran continued its support for terrorist-related activity in 2021, including support for Hizballah, Palestinian terrorist groups in Gaza, and various terrorist and militant groups in Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, and elsewhere throughout the Middle East. Iran used the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF) to provide support to terrorist organizations, provide cover for associated covert operations, and create instability in the region. Iran has acknowledged the involvement of the IRGC-QF in the Iraq and Syria conflicts, and the IRGC-QF is Iran’s primary mechanism for cultivating and supporting terrorist activity abroad. In 2019, the Secretary of State designated the IRGC, including IRGC-QF, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Iran also used regional militant and proxy groups to provide deniability, in an attempt to shield it from accountability for its destabilizing policies….
Since the end of the 2006 Israeli-Hizballah conflict, Iran has supplied Hizballah in Lebanon with thousands of rockets, missiles, and small arms in violation of UNSCR 1701. Israeli security officials and politicians expressed concerns that Iran was supplying Hizballah with advanced weapons systems and technologies, as well as assisting the group in creating infrastructure that would permit it to indigenously produce rockets and missiles to threaten Israel from Lebanon and Syria. Iran has provided hundreds of millions of dollars in support of Hizballah and trained thousands of its fighters at camps in Iran. Hizballah fighters have been used extensively in Syria to support the Assad regime.
In 2021, Iran continued providing weapons systems and other support to Hamas and other U.S.-designated Palestinian terrorist groups, including Palestine Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command. These groups were behind numerous deadly attacks [against Israel] originating in Gaza and the West Bank.
Clearly, you can see why Biden thought it was a dandy idea to line these guys’ pockets with $6 billion as an enticement to return to “negotiations” in which Uncle Sam provides them with even more material support which they use to make good on their promise to extirpate our ally.
