Biden: ‘I May Be a White Boy, but I Can Jump’

Joe Biden is pretty confident in his basketball skills. Speaking at a Naval Observatory reception celebrating Black History Month, the vice president warned Sacramento mayor and former NBA player Kevin Johnson not to underestimate his abilities on the court.

“I told the president, next game I have him,” Biden told the crowd. “Just remember I may be a white boy, but I can jump.”

Later, mentioning the importance of the marches from Selma to Montgomery, Biden criticized the Supreme Court for striking down parts of the Voting Rights Act last year. He also condemned the passage of voter-ID laws in different states and and called for an end to “this kind of malarkey” by their proponents.

“These guys never go away,” Biden said. “Hatred never, never goes away. The zealotry of those who wish to limit the franchise cannot be smothered by reason.”

“This fight has been too long, this fight has been too hard, to do anything other than win — not on the margins, but flat out win,” he added.

Daylight Savings Forever

Before I became a parent, I didn't have especially strong feelings about the time shifting by an hour twice a year. Like most people I was aware of the downsides -- increased car accidents, schedule confusion, etc. -- and I figured it would be better to knock it off. But I didn't feel personally offended by ...
