I can explain why: President Joe Biden, the former vice president to Barack Obama, runs an administration populated by other admirers of Obama and devotees of the progressive foreign policy blob.
This is a group of people so blindly committed to the mistaken belief that the Iranian regime can be anything but an enemy of the United States that they are willing to throw the Iranian people under the bus amidst a brutal crackdown on protesters — there’s one of these in Iran every 18 months or so — in pursuit of a worthless piece of paper that Ali Khamenei can flout while counting the cash his signature on it earned him, just like he did last time, as the Trump administration claimed and Europe later affirmed.
If the Biden administration doesn’t pursue a deal now, it’s an admission that his old boss was wrong to have done so in the first place. Pride blinded this same group of people once; that’s why they bypassed the constitutionally-required treaty approval process that would have likely sunk it.
They’ll be damned before they learn from their mistakes.
