Biden’s Choice: Support Our Jobs Bill, or Support Rape

Vice President Joe Biden was in Philadelphia yesterday afternoon touting President Obama’s jobs plan, which Senate Democrats are now attempting to pass piece by piece. The first measure they plan to bring to a vote is a bill that would spend $35 billion “to put teachers and first-responders back to work,” paid for by increasing taxes on “millionaires and billionaires.” Republicans have criticized the proposal as a rehash of the failed stimulus that did not deliver on promises to “put people back to work,” and have argued that “temporary” solutions are not the answer. A worked-up Biden takes it from there:

Well let me tell you, it’s not temporary when that 911 call comes in an a woman’s being raped if a cop shows up in time to prevent the rape, it’s not temporary to that woman. It’s not temporary to the guy whose store is being held up and there’s a gun pointed at his head, if a cop shows up and he’s not killed. That’s not temporary to that store owner. Give me a break! Temporary! I wished these guys who thought it’s temporary, I wish they had some notion what it’s like to be on the other side of a gun, or a 200-pound man standing over you and telling you to submit. Folks, it matters! It matters!

Biden will join Democrats at the Capitol today for a rally in support of the bill. Will he be able to top this?
