Must be a slow news day, because the NYT website currently features an article called “Invasion of the Big, Scary, Long Film Titles.” It says “Hollywood has come down with a serious case of title elongation.”
Let’s see about that. Here are the top ten films of the last week, according to Rotten Tomatoes: Iron Man 2, Robin Hood, Letters to Juliet, Just Wright, How To Train Your Dragon, Nightmare on Elm Street, Date-Night, Back-Up Plan, Furry Vengeance, and Clash of the Titans.
One has five words, two have four words. The rest have three words or less.
This isn’t “title elongation.” This is stretching the truth.
