Loretta Lynch obviously already had a gross conflict before she met with Bill Clinton. She works for a president who desperately wants to elect Hillary. But sometimes it takes something that is easy to understand, symbolically fraught, and natural fodder for cable chatter to bring an issue to the fore. And that’s what the Bill Clinton meeting did with Lynch’s pre-existing conflict. Now, if the FBI declines to recommend charges (which is what the reporting seems suggest, for what it’s worth), the decision will be even more tainted and for a wider segment of the public than it would have been otherwise. So far, this is Bill’s most notable contribution to the 2016 election.
