A Blackfive Alert

Matt Burden e-mails about an effort worth supporting:

Valour-IT is “Voice-Activated Laptops for OUR Injured Troops”. Soldiers Angels, in conjunction with the Purple Heart Society, provide laptops with voice activated software to our wounded troops recovering around the world. As you can imagine, being able to stay in touch with family, friends and comrades still in the war zones via email, IM and voice chat is a very powerful asset in recovery. http://soldiersangels.org/index.php?page=history-of-project-valour-it And it’s that time of year when the services vie for the number one provider of Valour-IT laptops for our wounded heroes. Last year we raised over $220,000. This year, we will crush that number.

Team Army (*cough* Doggie) will be led by me and Uncle Jimbo – both of Blackfive.net . Team Squid (Navy) will be led by Curt of Chaotic Synapitic Activity. Team Jarhead (Marines) will be led by Holly Aho (Marine Wife). Team Zoomie (Air Force) will be led by Mrs. Greyhawk of the Mudville Gazette.

I’ll put more info below my signature. The Blackfive post for kicking off the contest/fund raiser will be published at 1AM CST (check Blackfive at http://www.blackfive.net for the details). Please help if you can blog about the fund raiser (join Team ARMY at http://soldiersangels.org/index.php?page=join-army-team ) or support us by forwarding this email to your family and friends or writing a story about how these laptops help our wounded troops stay connected. Best regards (and AIRBORNE! ALL THE WAY!) Matt Matthew Currier Burden

The Lies We’re Told about the American Story

Editor’s Note: The following essay was adapted from remarks delivered to the annual dinner of the Lincoln Club of Orange County, in California, on October 4. Every American heart must break when lies are told to boys and girls, who then grow up to think the worst about their past: that the American ... Read More

The polling aggregator on the website RealClearPolitics shows the margin in polls led by Joe Biden in a blue font and the ones led by Donald Trump in red. Bill Murray: The King of Cool

Bill Murray’s Bill Murray impression is priceless in On the Rocks, the way John Wayne did a fantastic John Wayne parody in True Grit and Al Pacino found a new level of Pacino-ness in Scent of a Woman. I want to quote every line of dialogue Murray delivers in his new movie for Apple TV+ -- every hilarious piece ... Read More

Orwell, Huxley, and Us

To hear some people tell it, America entered a dystopia long before the coronavirus and measures undertaken to combat it altered everyday life almost to the point of unrecognizability. As for which dystopia, and when, well — that depends on whom one asks. For many on the left, the annus horribilis was 2016, ... Read More
