The Corner

Bleg – Wal Mart

Steven Horwitz, a good man and economist at St. Lawrence University, asks for help. I don’t normally do this, but he’s helped me out in the past:

Jonah,

Could you ask the wonderful readers of The Corner to let me know if they are aware of any really good studies of the economic impact of Wal-Mart on small towns? I’ve been asked to be part of a public forum on the topic, as a SuperCenter is being considered for the neighboring town. I’ve found a few studies but none of them are particularly good. With all the wonky types hiding in the creases and crevices of The Corner, someone’s got to have a good reference or two. The cause is noble, and I think I can stand the email barrage at sghorwitz@stlawu.edu.
