Really organizers from Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group of which New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg is a co-chairman, have issued an apology for including the dead Boston Marathon bombing suspect on a list of gun-violence victims.
The name of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed in a gunfight with police, was read aloud at a rally the group held in New Hampshire, drawing criticism from attendees and political leaders. The group stopped in the state to protest Senator Kelly Ayotte’s vote against the Manchin-Toomey background-check bill, as part of its 25-state bus tour for gun control.
A Mayor Against Illegal Guns spokesman said that the group was using a list of gun victims compiled by Slate, and that Tsarnaev’s “name should have been deleted before the list was provided to a family member for reading.” “It was a mistake, it should not have happened and we sincerely apologize,” the group said.
“Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a murderous terrorist and a cold-blooded killer,” New Hampshire GOP chairman Jennifer Horn said, before the apology. “It is outrageous that Mayor Bloomberg’s gun-control group is so radical and out of touch with New Hampshire values that it believes this monster should be labeled as some kind of victim.”
