Boehner Seizes on Obamacare Youth Enrollment Figures

Speaker John Boehner’s office is seizing on the disappointing Obamacare enrollment numbers released today, calling them a “bust.”

“There’s no way to spin it: Youth enrollment has been a bust so far. When they see that Obamacare offers high costs for limited access to doctors — if the enrollment goes through at all — it’s no surprise that young people aren’t rushing to sign up,” said Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck.

Buck notes that the figures released today fall short both in terms of the percentage of enrollees who are “young invincibles” as well as — and especially — in absolute numbers.

The administration had projected that 38 percent of enrollees would be “young invincibles,” while only 24 percent are. In total numbers, Obama had sought 2.7 million young-adult enrollees. So far, only about half a million have signed up — about 18 percent of the goal.
