Boehner Sets the Bar High

Speaker Boehner is off to a very strong start. The earmark ban. A series of new House rules that make it easier to hold down spending. A “symbolic” cut in the congressional budget. The maintenance of the term limit for committee chairmen at six years. The coming House vote to repeal Obamacare.

And today 19 Democrats refused to vote for Pelosi. Which caucus is looking over its shoulder in fear of the electorate?

Boehner has won high marks on both style and substance. And he has kept his profile low, shared credit, and managed expectations.

Really nowhere to go now but down.
