The Corner

Booking Heritage

Lee Edwards is writing a history of the Heritage Foundation for Random House. According to Random House, the book, tentatively titled The Road to Liberty,

will explore how The Heritage Foundation, under the leadership of its president, Edwin J. Feulner, has played an influential role in shaping U.S. and world politics with conservative solutions. The book will include behind-the-scenes accounts of some of Mr. Feulner’s most critical and controversial decisions, including the publication of “Mandate for Leadership”; his warm friendships with presidential candidates and officials of various administration officials; the international alliances he forged with Prime Minister Thatcher and other world leaders; and as well as The Heritage Foundation’s commitment to remain independent of any political party or financial supporter.

As you may remember, Dana Perino is now editorial director at Random House’s Crown Forum imprint; she spearheaded this project. In announcing the book, she writes: “It is a great honor for Crown Forum to be working in partnership with the Heritage Foundation and Lee Edwards on what is sure to be one of the most important works about liberty and conservatism in a generation.”

Edwards is a familiar name to National Review Online readers. A historian and fellow at Heritage, he has written over 20 books, the most recent on William F. Buckley Jr. (read my interview with him about WFB and that book here). He is also chairman of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.

The announcement is being made today to coincide with Heritage’s annual President’s Club meeting in Washington, D.C.
