Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee organized a conference call with Judge Brett Kavanaugh, inviting majority and minority committee staff to ask questions of Kavanaugh. No Democratic staff chose to participate. This means no staffers of Senator Dianne Feinstein, who had the letter of the accuser for six weeks and did not share it with the rest of the committee, chose to participate.
Staffers for Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley said “staff reached out to Dr. Ford’s lawyer with multiple emails yesterday to schedule a similar call and inform her of the upcoming hearing, where she will have the opportunity to share her story with the Committee. Her lawyer has not yet responded.”
Debra Katz, who represents Christine Blasey Ford, said in televised interviews Monday that her client is willing to testify before Congress on sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh. It seems a little strange that Katz’s office is taking so long to reply to Grassley’s staff.
Today Grassley’s staff declared in a statement, “we’ve made contact with other alleged witnesses based on the Washington Post’s reporting. Ranking Member Feinstein and her staff are invited to participate in all interviews. They have so far declined.”
Democrats insist that the accusations are extremely important – and indeed they are – but are behaving as if they have no interest in asking any questions unless they’re being televised.
None of this is consistent with a good-faith search for the truth.
