Earlier this week, White House climate and energy czarina Carol Browner announced she would be leaving the Administration. Does the loss of the “all-star quarterback of President Obama’s green dream team” signal a retreat on global warming policy? Cap-and-trade is a non-starter; if anything Congress will go after the EPA’s greenhouse gas regulations, which also face legal challenges in court. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that the SOTU was devoid of any reference to global warming, climate change, or the environment. The President outlined a proposal to mandate greater use of ”clean energy” but failed to cite any environmental maladies as justification. Now that global warming has become a back-burner issue, it seems Browner has decided the White House is no longer a hot place to be.
