Malcolm in the Middle

Take a break from 2016 and listen to Noel Malcolm talk about the politics of the 16th century in the Mediterranean, in my latest Bookmonger podcast. Malcolm is the author of Agents of Empire: Knights, Corsairs, Jesuits, and Spies. He talks about the rivalry of Venice and the Ottoman Empire through the lens of a single family. There’s a detective story, too: Malcolm learned about his major subjects when he discovered a lost document in the library of the Vatican. We discuss it all, in just a little more than 10 minutes.

John J. Miller, the national correspondent for National Review and host of its Great Books podcast, is the director of the Dow Journalism Program at Hillsdale College. He is the author of A Gift of Freedom: How the John M. Olin Foundation Changed America.
