Building Our Higher-Ed Library

At this time each year, the Martin Center likes to a) highlight our extensive library of books relating to higher education and b) suggest to donors some new titles we’d like to have. You can read our wish list for 2022 here.

Most of the books are quite recent, but one dates back to 1927 — The Treason of the Intellectuals by Julian Benda. It is every bit as relevant today as when it was written. Maybe more so.

A book published this year we want to acquire is Professor David Bernstein’s Classified, which turns over the rock to reveal the ugly stuff that has happened to give us the system of racial classifications that has seeped into public policy (including but not limited to racial preferences in college admissions).

Another recent title on our list is by Alan Dershowitz, The Case Against the New Censorship: Protecting Free Speech from Big Tech, Progressives, and Universities. Dershowitz is one of those old-fashioned liberals who sees the danger in allowing any group to control what may or may not be said.
