Bulletin from The University of Chicago of the Northeast

There’s this new magazine called 02138, all about Harvard. It’s not published by Harvard. It’s published by people who think Harvard is so wonderful and exciting that it deserves its own for-profit lifestyle magazine. This is not a joke. Nor is this press release from 02138:

New York, NY (September 4, 2007)— Al Gore, George W. Bush and Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy are the three names topping 02138 magazine’s second annual “Harvard 100,” and the order of the ranking is particularly provocative. Published in the September/October issue of 02138, the “Harvard 100” recognizes the university’s most influential living alumni from around the world in politics, science, law, business, entertainment, media, and other fields….Forty-eight Harvard heavyweights who made their debut on the 2006 “Harvard 100” ranking return in 2007, including Barack Obama, Bill Gates and Matt Damon. The diverse list features 11 powerhouse women, including Jill Abramson of The New York Times and eBay’s Meg Whitman, as well as nine international names, from Benazir Bhutto to the Aga Khan IV.

“The ‘Harvard 100’ spotlights fascinating men and women whose work is changing the world,” said Bom Kim, founder and president of 02138. “We ranked Al Gore above President Bush because we felt that there is no more important public conversation than that about global warming. We ask the question, ‘Is Al Gore More Important than the President?’ It may sound improbable—until you consider the fact that Al Gore is, quite literally, trying to save the world.”

Hey, so is Matt Damon! Rank him above the president too!
