Bush Considering Corker

As Larry mentioned earlier, the Bush administration is considering applying some of the provisions in the Corker amendment to any aid it extends to the automakers. The Corker amendment at least attempted to address the problem of labor costs, but, as the editors noted today, bankruptcy is still the best option for the Detroit three. The Corker amendment could be as unrealistic, in its own way, as the Democrats’ demands that union wages be left alone. The Republicans really don’t have any more business setting wages for the Detroit three than the Democrats do. Let a bankruptcy judge sort these things out.
