Calif. Shuts Down Ten Phony Insurance-Exchange Websites

California has shut down ten websites that were allegedly designed to fool consumers into thinking they were purchasing insurance on the state’s health-care exchange.

Under state law, entities may only provide services on behalf of the exchange if they have a valid agreement to do so.

All ten of the sites contacted, which were unaffiliated with the exchange and run by insurance companies or private brokers, complied.
