You’ve heard of toll-free suicide prevention hotlines.
Well, now California is on the verge of instituting a suicide facilitation hotline in connection with its new assisted suicide law. From SB 1002:
The State Department of Public Health shall establish and maintain a toll-free telephone number for the purpose of receiving and responding to inquiries regarding the End of Life Option Act. The department shall post the telephone number on its Internet Web site.
The telephone number shall operate during the regular business hours of the department and be available to the public
A pro suicide hotline. Operated by the state. I wish I could say, “Unbelievable.” But I can’t.
