I certainly think it was ill-advised for Jean Schmidt to read that letter in the House. I don’t think it’s as transparently obvious that she was calling Murtha a coward — which he obviously isn’t — as so many others do. But in the hothouse of this debate it should have been transparently obvious to Schmidt that it would be taken that way. Murtha’s an honest, brave and patriotic guy. He’s also wrong. But therein lies the debate.
