Camp Plus Lee

At Bloomberg I go through the pros and cons, as I see them, of Representative Dave Camp’s tax-reform plan. There are more pros than cons, but Senator Mike Lee’s plan is superior. Even better than that would be to meld the positive elements of the two plans together:

Camp’s proposal is intended as a “discussion draft.” Nobody expects Congress to move on it this year. So there’s plenty of time to meld the best parts of both plans together: marrying the pro-family, middle-class core of the Lee plan with the pro-business features of Camp’s.

Perhaps Paul Ryan, who will succeed Camp as Ways and Means chairman if Republicans hold the House this fall, can take up that project.

NR’s editors have a positive take on Camp’s plan today as well.
