One very important point to note as this continues is that today’s university administrator is probably the most herd-like occupational group in the nation. You have people with deep training in English or Physics or Engineering and they are now in charge of managing a bureaucratic organization and being a symbolic figurehead with little experience in leadership in most cases. They are not known for their boldness and are easily swayed by consultants and crisis managers, who are telling them to get out in front of the narrative. I bet by the end of the week, the top 100 schools in the U.S. News and World Report ranking will put out a similar message.
