Cantor to Senate Democrats: ‘Come and Talk’ to House GOP

House majority leader Eric Cantor urged Senate Democrats today to agree to a conference with House Republicans to determine a continuing resolution that both chambers could support.

In a vote earlier today, Senate Democrats rejected the conference proposal 54–46.

“None of us want to be in a shutdown,” Cantor said today, sitting at a table with the other House Republicans, including Represenative Paul Ryan, who had been appointed to attend the conference, if it occurs, with Senate Democrats.

“We’re here to say to the Senate Democrats: Come and talk to us,” Cantor continued. “This is how we resolve our differences and can work our way out of this kind of situation.”
