Cantor: ‘The Warning Signs Have Been There’

Rep. Eric Cantor (R., Va.) spoke with reporters this morning about his endorsement of Marco Rubio in Florida’s GOP Senate primary. The politics of Gov. Charlie Crist (R., Fla.), Rubio’s opponent, have concerned him for some time. “The warning signs have been there,” Cantor says, from Crist’s support of President Obama’s stimulus package to the governor’s recent veto of an education reform bill. “Reports that he will, perhaps, seek an independent bid show someone who built a career based on our party and our principles ready to jettison that connection to stay in office.” Florida, Cantor adds, need an “entirely different kind of leadership” that “keeps its word” to voters.
