House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) promises to keep the House in session “until we have fulfilled our obligation to cut spending,” receives a standing ovation from Republicans, a sitting moan from Democrats, some of whom no doubt had big shopping plans they’ll now have to put on hold.
CANTOR: At this point, it is too early to tell whether the House will need to be in session this weekend. In the case of lapse in appropriations, however, I fully expect the House to meet.
We will not leave town until we have fulfilled our obligation to cut spending, to begin getting our fiscal house in order. Mr. Speaker, we are committed to getting our fiscal house in order and to keep the government functioning. Therefore, Members should keep their schedules for this weekend as flexible as possible.
