Car Bomb Forces Evacuation of Times Square

Here is what we know: Times Square was evacuated after the discovery of an apparent car bomb on 45th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues.

At approximately 6:30 P.M., police discovered a smoking SUV containing propane tanks, gasoline, and gun powder, all attached to an apparent timing device. NYPD bomb squad members have characterized the assemblage as an apparent improvised explosive device — though one more incendiary than explosive in nature — whose trigger failed to detonate.

The license plates on the vehicle in question did not match its registration. But police and/or federal investigators have reportedly tracked down and questioned at least one individual linked to it.
