When asked today during the daily White House press briefing if the administratoin would accept any delay in the implementation of Obamacare to avert a government shutdown, Carney gave an emphatic “no” before blasting Republicans.

“And you know, they can, as they have 40 times already, continue to vote to repeal or change or defund the Affordable Care Act,” Carney said, “and we can all watch that exercise as it unfolds, but . . . they should do their jobs by making sure that the essential functions of government are funded and making sure that the full faith and credit of the United States government is upheld, as it has been since the birth of the nation.”

The administration has delayed by one year the implementation of Obamacare’s employer mandate, which required employers to provide workers with health insurance. When pressed on the matter, Carney said that the administration’s delay of the employer mandate was “the right and responsible thing to do,” and declared that delaying the invidual mandate, which he characterized as the “heart” of Obamacare, would add to the deficit.
