Former Bush administration communications chief Nicolle Wallace grilled White House press secretary Jay Carney on President Obama’s controversial guarantee that Americans could keep their health-care plans under Obamacare as reports of termination letters roll in. Carney countered that it was “only a sliver or a cut” of the population who would lose their existing policy.

Over the past week, Democrats have asserted that only 5 percent of the population are being impacted, which comes out to roughly 14 million people.

During their back-and-forth, Wallace called out Carney for being hypocritical, saying that he would not have let the Bush administration get away with breaking their promise when he served as TIME’s Washington bureau chief. “You would have taken us apart,” she said.
