Casinos

I’m enjoying worrying about the spectacle in New Jersey as much as the next guy. But the coverage of the casino shut down seems way, way, overblown. Why is this so fascinating? (And, why aren’t the casinos picking up the tab for the state employees so they can stay open?). Before the casinos shutdown, NPR did a long piece on the plight and peril of people denied their essential government services. But once the casino’s closed, that was all old news; tourists couldn’t play the slots!

Update: Scroll up to see an update on this (i.e. please don’t send me email explaining why casinos aren’t picking up the tab on the monitors — they already do).
