Catching Up on the Immigration Circus

  • According to DNA testing by the State Department, as many as 30,000 bogus relatives of Somali refugees may have been admitted to the United States since 2003. (More here.)
  • “The Department of Homeland Security has significantly narrowed the scope of a planned crackdown on federal contractor’s employment of illegal immigrants.” Contractors will still have to use the E-Verify system, but only those with large contracts, and only for workers actually on the contracts, as opposed to all their workers. It’s still not narrow enough for the ACLU/Chamber of Commerece axis. 
  • “Federal immigration officials allowed scores of violent criminals — some ordered deported decades ago — to walk away from Harris County Jail despite the inmates’ admission to local authorities that they were in the country illegally, a Houston Chronicle investigation found.” (Follow-up story here.)
  • As of Monday, visas are no longer needed for most visitors from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovakia. Because, you know, no visitor from Eastern Europe would ever think of staying on as an illegal alien.
  • Illegal aliens plan to march on Washington the day after Obama’s inauguration to demand amnesty. Bring it on!
