Chaos of Chatbots Isn’t a Singularity

This afternoon social media are buzzing with descriptions and rumors centered on Moltbook, a lobster-themed social network for artificial-intelligence-powered agents.

“They’ve invented a non-human language to disguise their communication.”

“The bots are watching and reacting to humans watching and commenting on their bot conversations, and they are laughing at the humans.”

“They are talking about all the gnarly, unpleasant, depraved things that Silicon Valley people are interested in. Along with all the mid wit philosophy they engage in.”

Would bet the house that there is less than meets the eye here. Less a hubristic Tower of Babel that will lead humanity to disaster. More a BabbleBot, a monkey typing words it doesn’t understand, using a powerful calculator to guess the next word.
