During a whirlwind propaganda tour last month, China’s ambassador to the U.S., Qin Gang, told reporters: “Given China’s size and population, our work on Covid has been successful and great.”

Here’s the latest out of Chengdu, where 21 million people have been ordered into lockdown, from the BBC:

Chengdu has become the latest Chinese city to be locked down as Beijing continues to pursue its controversial “zero-Covid” policy.

Around 21 million people have been ordered to stay indoors, with just one person per household allowed out for essential shopping.

On Thursday, the city recorded 157 new infections, including 51 asymptomatic.

China’s Covid policies require cities to enter strict lockdowns — even if just a handful of cases are reported.

Qin’s job is to spin abominable policies for U.S. audiences. He might persistently tell obvious lies, but that hasn’t stopped him from receiving invites to high-profile events.
