One possible reason for Kerry’s choice of language (and perhaps his
popularity in NH) is the large French Canadian population in the Granite
State.
The NH French Canadian vote doesn’t seem to have been discovered by the
near frozen news media covering the story up there yet.
My father’s cousin once told me that when he grew up in Manchester in the
1930s, speaking French (or actually French Canadian) was a necessity to get
along in the schools.
As I recall, Buchannan’s strongest vote came out of Manchester. Watch for
the French-looking (and now speaking) Kerry to do well there as well.
