Childish Things

One of the sadder lessons of fatherhood is to discover that some of the things you loved as a kid really don’t hold up that well. For example, some movies you thought were awesome, are kind of lame through grown-up (or at least more grown-up) eyes. I dread rewatching Bugsy Malone (even though it’s impossible to find on American format DVD) for fear of discovering I don’t like it anymore.

Well, another terrible lesson: Spaghetti-Os smell like death. My daughter loves them. We put them in a thermos for her to eat at lunch (somehow my progeny doesn’t like sandwiches!). The problem is they just look and smell nasty to me now. When I was a kid, I thought they were oval-awesomeness. Now, they seem barely fit to serve at Gitmo.

Heartbreaking.
