Lots of Mussolini in my inbox today. I never expected to find him there. Why is he swarming? Because I said, in my Corner notes about the State of the Union speech, that our president looks arrogant, whether he is arrogant or not, because of his upturned chin. He’s got that chin in the air, so much of the time. Enough readers to notice — say, 15 — have written (all independently, of course), “Reminds me of photos or newsreels of Mussolini.”
Hmmm. Now, this is just a stylistic point, mind you. I’m sure NRO readers mean nothing nefarious by it. Compared with Il Duce, our president is surely Il Dolce.
