Christie vs. McQuaid

Joe McQuaid, publisher of the Manchester Union Leader, says that Chris Christie told him that he would never endorse Donald Trump — less than three weeks before he did just that. A Christie adviser says the New Jersey governor has a different recollection of that conversation.

But Christie’s memory has not been very reliable lately. He misremembered his record of support for Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court: First he denied that he had ever given her his support, then he said that he had given it only after the Senate had voted for her. Both claims were false. Christie has had trouble keeping track of his record on guns, too. And he said that a story in which he said he gave money to Planned Parenthood must have misquoted him. And all of those memory failures were just in January.

So on the question of who’s remembering this conversation accurately, I’m betting on McQuaid.
