Christie Boomlet

Another Republican is floating Gov. Chris Christie as their favorite 2012 presidential contender. Rep. Peter King (R., N.Y.) tells National Review Online that he is trying to stir a ‘Draft Christie’ movement.

Over a recent 90-minute, “very good” meeting in Trenton, King urged the Garden State governor to run. King says Christie told him that he will not, but the New York Republican still made his case. “Christie is a guy who appeals to Reagan Democrats,” King says. “We need more of that. He doesn’t look like a Hollywood star. He comes across like your neighbor down the street — smart and tough . . . He was a successful lawyer, a successful U.S. attorney, and he was elected governor in a blue state against a well-financed opponent.”
