There’s been less chatter about the possibility of Chris Christie being Mitt Romney’s veep pick these days, and for good reason: Christie hails from the same general region as Romney (and there’s no reason to believe Christie on the ticket would make Jersey go Republican), and Christie, frankly, overshadows Romney on the stump. (When the two did a joint event in New Hampshire on the eve of the GOP primary, Romney let Christie speak after him. That’s an unusual ordering — and one which indicated Romney understood who was going to energize the crowd more.)
But, as Bob reported earlier this month, Christie has of late been softening his formerly more strident denials that he would join as second on the ticket, saying, for instance, “If Governor Romney comes to me and wants to talk about it, I’ll always listen.” And today, he said, per CNN, “He might be able to convince me. He’s a convincing guy, but I really love this job. I really want to stay in this job.”
Meanwhile, Senator Kelly Ayotte joined Romney on the stump today, making the most recent possible veep pick (Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio have also campaigned with Romney) to campaign alongside Romney.
