Christie Won Applause, Santorum Won Substance and Sincerity

In the undercard debate tonight, Chris Christie delivered the greatest number of poll-tested applause lines. In that sense, he may have “won” the debate.

But Rick Santorum was the strongest on substance, on sincerity, on likability, and on what I’ll call forward-looking positivity.

Santorum rarely says anything that is the most memorable. But he never makes gaffes, and he always makes sense. If we actually want a president who will be thoughtful, knowledgeable, and authentic, we could do a lot worse than Rick Santorum.
