Christopher Buckley on Uncommon Knowledge

This week on Uncommon Knowledge, Christopher Buckley discusses his newest comic novel, Supreme Courtship.

“President of the United States Donald Vanderkamp,” to quote from the dust jacket, “is at war with Capitol Hill.  After his Supreme Court nominee is nixed for insufficiently appreciating To Kill a Mockingbird, the President chooses someone so beloved by voters that the Senate won’t have the guts to reject her—Judge Pepper Cartwright, the star of the nation’s most popular reality show, Courtroom Six.”

On today’s segment of the interview, I ask Christopher a simple question:  How the heck do you come up with this stuff?

I begin, Christopher replies, by thinking about the money.

As every pillar of the world finanical system cracks and teeters, panic grips Wall Street and Washington, and the world as we know it draws to an end, take a couple of minutes to laugh.

Jared Kushner Was Right

Over the past several years, a new certainty was added to death and taxes: Jared Kushner would fail in his role as the administration’s Middle East point man. It caused considerable merriment among President Donald Trump’s critics (and even some of his well-wishers) when he put his son-in-law in charge of ... Read More
