Regarding the events in Britain, what could be more prescient than Anthony Burgess’s novel, A Clockwork Orange, and the great film made from it by Stanley Kubrick? Even today, forty years after it was released, it’s still hard to watch; indeed, the movie was so relentless that it was at first rated X in the U.S. and was withdrawn from circulation in Great Britain for 27 years.
Instead of excoriating it, maybe the Brits should have made it mandatory viewing for the political class instead. They might have learned something.
